Saturday August 27, Club Dive, Carmel River Beach, 8 AM

Hello divers

We had no RSVP’s, so we are going to cancel our planned club dive for tomorrow at Carmel River Beach.  That said, if you’d like to contact each other, and arrange a dive on your own, feel free to do so and, please, don’t forget about our planned club dive on September 9th at Otter Cove!

We will meet at 8:00 at Carmel River Beach, also called Stewart’s Cove at the intersection of Scenic Rd. and Ocean View Ave. in Carmel. The dive site has a rocky bottom with canyons like Butterfly House. You can see a lot of fish close to the rocks or hiding in the kelp or cracks, a very nice environment to dive in with this underwater scenery. You can see all the normal crabs, rock fish, nudibranchs, and much more.
The site is relatively unprotected, only enjoyable on calmer days. If the swell is too large, we will go to our back-up site, Lovers Cove.
Location: Intersection of Scenic Rd and Ocean View Ave in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Parking: Limited street parking: drop your gear near the stairs at Scenic Rd & Ocean View Ave intersection, and park as close as you can.
Rating: Advanced because waves can suddenly pop up, surge & surf, large amount of kelp in summer & fall. Per XtremeSports, “The area has large swells and strong currents. Divers should check the conditions, before diving. If you see in the horizon boats to appear and disappear with the swells, go back to Monterey County and dive there.”
Entry: Sandy Beach, per Cal ifornia Diving News, “Watch for surge and surf… Avoid entering in the center of the beach due to the greater wave action there.”
Depth: 20-60′
Amenities: No facilities at meet point.
Carmel River Beach is a State Park and offers free parking, restrooms and running potable water at 26598 Scenic Rd, Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Nearby Dive Shops: Closest shops are in Monterey (Aquarius and Bamboo Reef)
